The Beauty of Linen Baby Clothing

Linen brings a breath of fresh air to baby wardrobes with its natural elegance and functionality. It’s a fabric that respects the sensitivity of a baby’s skin, offering a cool, comfortable wearing experience even in the warmest climates. In the realm of linen baby clothing, the linen ruffle dress and linen romper steal the spotlight with their undeniable cuteness and pragmatic designs.

The tender ruffles of the dress lend a playful, whimsical touch, while the clean, uncomplicated lines of the romper strike a balance between style and comfort.

With a rainbow of colors and a medley of designs to choose from, dressing your baby in linen pieces will surely be a delightful adventure. Whether it’s a special occasion or a regular day, a linen can make your baby look adorably chic without compromising on comfort.

Sizing Baby Clothing: Getting it Right

Understanding the correct size for your baby’s clothing can be a bit of a challenge. With the rapid pace at which babies grow, an outfit that fits perfectly this week may be snug a month later. As such, when choosing a baby dress or baby romper, look for features that add flexibility such as elastic waistbands or adjustable shoulder straps. These allow for some growing room and extend the outfit’s wearability.

It’s also important to note that linen as a fabric has a tendency to shrink slightly after its first wash. To counter this, consider purchasing the outfit in a slightly larger size than your baby currently wears. This not only accommodates for any potential shrinkage but also gives your baby a bit more room to move and grow.

Finding the right size isn’t just about your baby’s current measurements. It also involves a little bit of forward thinking to ensure that your little one will be able to comfortably wear their cute linen ruffle dress or romper for as long as possible.

Accessorizing Linen Ruffle Dresses and Rompers

Adding the right accessories can elevate your baby’s linen outfit from adorable to picture-perfect. When accessorizing linen, think along the lines of a color-coordinated headbands that complements the dress or a cute pair or faux leather shoes. These additions can provide a nice visual contrast to the frilly ruffles and your baby’s cuteness.

As for linen rompers, socks in playful prints or a soft, lightweight hat make for delightful accompaniments. They not only serve a practical purpose by keeping your baby’s feet warm and their head protected but also enhance the overall aesthetic of the outfit.

However, when choosing accessories for your baby, it’s essential to prioritize their safety and comfort. Steer clear of accessories with small detachable parts that could pose a choking risk or any items that could restrict your baby’s movement or cause discomfort. For example, headbands should be snug but not too tight. Check shoes and socks to make sure they are a comfortable and not too tight fit.

Additionally, consider the functionality of the accessory in relation to your baby’s activities for the day. If it’s a day of active play, accessories that could potentially get in the way should be avoided. Conversely, for more relaxed days or special occasions, feel free to add that extra flair. Always remember that while the aim is to add to the cuteness quotient, the comfort and safety of your baby should never be compromised.

In the end, accessorizing your baby’s linen ruffle dress or romper is all about balance. The right accessories can enhance the look of the outfit while also serving practical purposes, ensuring your baby looks stylishly adorable while staying comfortable and safe.

Proper Care for Linen Ruffle Romper and Linen Baby Clothes

When it comes to caring for your baby’s linen attire, such as the delightful linen ruffle romper or dress, there are a few tips and tricks that can help maintain their quality and longevity. Linen, although durable, has some specific care needs to keep it looking its best.

Start by checking the label. This will provide instructions tailored to the specific garment. Generally, though, linen can be washed in a machine on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent. We recommend using a garment bag. Avoid using bleach as it can cause discoloration and damage the natural fibers of the fabric.

Air drying is typically the best option for linen items. The heat from a dryer can cause linen to shrink or warp, altering the fit and look of the garment. Instead, lay the garment flat to dry naturally, or hang it up away from direct sunlight which can also cause fading.

An interesting aspect of linen is that it is one of the few fabrics where wrinkles are part of its appeal. These add a casual, comfortable charm to the garment, making ironing usually unnecessary. However, if you do prefer a more polished look, it’s best to iron linen while it’s still damp. Use a medium heat iron and always iron on the wrong side of the fabric to prevent shiny marks.

When it comes to stains, act fast. Linen is naturally resistant to dirt and stains, but prompt attention can prevent a spill from becoming a permanent mark. Blot the stain gently with a cloth, avoiding rubbing as it can make the stain worse. Then wash as directed.

With a bit of care and attention, your baby’s linen outfits can remain cute and stylish for a long time, ready for all the adorable moments ahead.

Baltic Amber Necklaces, The Beauty and Benefits

cherry amber necklaces and amethyst baltic amber necklace amber gemstone necklace

Baltic amber necklaces have become increasingly popular in recent years, with many people embracing them for their beauty and claimed health benefits. These necklaces are not just a fashion statement; they are also believed to offer several advantages for both adults and babies. We will delve into the benefits of Baltic amber necklaces and also address some safety concerns.

The Ancient Charm of Baltic Amber

Baltic amber is a fossilized tree resin that is found in the region surrounding the Baltic Sea. Its warm, golden hues and natural allure make it a sought-after material for jewelry. Baltic amber has been used for centuries for its believed healing properties and is considered as a powerful talisman by many.

Benefits of Wearing Baltic Amber Necklaces

Many individuals wear Baltic amber necklaces for their alleged therapeutic effects. Although scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited, testimonials and traditional beliefs have highlighted the following potential benefits:

  1. Pain Relief: One of the primary reasons people choose to wear Baltic amber necklaces is for their purported ability to alleviate pain. The amber contains a substance called succinic acid, which is believed to have natural analgesic properties. Claiming that wearing the necklace helps reduce headaches, joint pain, and teething discomfort in babies.
  2. Anti-Inflammatory: Baltic amber is thought to possess anti-inflammatory properties. When worn against the skin, body heat releases the succinic acid, which may be absorbed into the bloodstream. This might help to reduce inflammation in certain areas of the body, providing relief from conditions such as arthritis.
  3. Immune Support: The succinic acid found in Baltic amber is believed to have immune-boosting qualities. It is said to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms, helping to strengthen the immune system and increase overall wellbeing.
  4. Calming Effects: Many parents use Baltic amber necklaces to ease teething discomfort in babies. The necklace, when worn against the skin, can allegedly release succinic acid, which is thought to have a soothing effect on the gums. This may help reduce fussiness and sleep disturbances caused by teething.

Safety Concerns and Precautions for Baltic Amber Necklaces

While Baltic amber necklaces have gained popularity, it is essential to address safety concerns associated with their use, particularly for babies and young children:

  1. Supervised Use Only: It is crucial to always supervise babies and young children when they are wearing Baltic amber necklaces. Never leave them unattended or allow them to sleep with the necklace on.
  2. Proper Fit: Choose a necklace that fits around the neck, not too short not too long, we like to see it sit on the collar bone under clothing. Do not over tighten the clasp as this will cause stress to the clasp. Each bead is individually knotted to prevent any potential choking hazards.
  3. Remove During Sleep: It is recommended to remove Baltic amber necklaces before sleeping or napping to minimize the risk of accidental strangulation.
  4. Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the necklace for any signs of wear and tear. Check that the clasp is secure and make sure the beads are in good condition. Again, I can’t stress this enough. Do not over tighten the clasp as this will cause stress to the clasp
  5. Pulling, tugging, trying to mouth: We do not recommend baltic amber necklaces to ever be mouthed, Baltic amber is to be worn only. If your child is pulling, tugging or trying to put an amber necklace in their mouth, it is recommended to be removed and try again another time, when the child is ready.

Conclusion

Baltic amber necklaces are not only beautiful pieces of jewelry but also hold a special place in traditional beliefs and alternative medicine. While the benefits are largely anecdotal, many wearers attest to their potential advantages, particularly for pain relief and immune support. However, it is crucial to prioritize safety when using Baltic amber necklaces, especially for babies and young children. Always consult with a healthcare professional before using these necklaces for medicinal purposes and follow the recommended safety precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Baby Led Weaning: A Guide to Starting Solids

baby led weaning silicone tableware baby cutlery silicone bi suction bowl suction plate

When it comes to introducing your baby to solid foods, there are various approaches to choose from. One popular method gaining traction among parents is baby led weaning (BLW). This approach allows babies to explore food at their own pace and encourages them to feed themselves from the get-go. In this post, we will delve into the world of baby-led weaning and share some delicious and nutritious baby food recipes to try with your little one.

Understanding Baby Led Weaning

Baby led weaning is a method that allows babies to feed themselves right from the start, skipping the puree stage altogether. Instead of spoon-feeding them, you offer finger-sized pieces of nutritious food for your baby to explore, touch, and taste. This approach promotes independence, fine motor skills, and encourages self-regulation of hunger and appetite.

Signs of Readiness

Before you embark on the baby-led weaning journey, it’s essential to ensure that your baby is developmentally ready. Look out for these signs:

  1. Good head and neck control: Your baby should be able to sit up with minimal support.
  2. Ability to grasp objects: They should be able to hold and grab objects, bringing them to their mouth.
  3. Showing interest in food: Look for signs of curiosity when they see others eating.

Baby Food Recipes for Baby Led Weaning

Here are some simple and nutritious baby food recipes to get you started on your baby-led weaning journey:

Oatmeal Fingers

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup breast milk or formula
  • 1 ripe banana (mashed)
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the rolled oats and breast milk/formula in a small pan and heat over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring continuously.
  2. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. Add the mashed banana and cinnamon (if desired) to the oatmeal mixture and combine well.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly onto a baking tray and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
  5. Once cooled, cut the baked oatmeal into finger-sized pieces and let your little one explore!

Avocado Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • Whole grain bread, lightly toasted

Instructions:

  1. Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit.
  2. Scoop out the avocado flesh and mash it with a fork until smooth.
  3. Spread the mashed avocado onto the lightly toasted bread.
  4. Cut the avocado toast into strips or bite-sized portions that are easy for your baby to handle.
  5. Offer it to your little one and watch them enjoy their avocado starter!

Sweet Potato and Carrot Coins

Ingredients:

  • 1 sweet potato, peeled
  • 2 carrots, peeled

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the sweet potato and carrots into coin-shaped pieces.
  3. Place the coins on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake for about 20-25 minutes until they are tender.
  5. Allow to cool and serve as an easy-to-hold finger food.

Remember, the focus is on offering a variety of nutrient-rich foods and promoting self-feeding. While these recipes provide a starting point, feel free to experiment with other fruits, vegetables, and whole grains as your baby becomes more comfortable with solids.

Safety Tips

While baby led weaning is generally safe and beneficial, it’s crucial to keep these safety tips in mind:

  • Always supervise your baby during mealtimes.
  • Offer food pieces that are appropriately sized and easy to grip.
  • Avoid foods that pose choking hazards, such as whole grapes or hard chunks of food.
  • Introduce one new food at a time to watch for any allergic reactions.
  • Be patient and supportive, allowing your little one to explore and learn at their own pace.

Baby-led weaning can be an exciting journey for both you and your baby. It encourages healthy eating habits from the start and allows your little one to develop their feeding skills naturally. By offering a variety of nutritious foods and allowing them to self-feed, you can set a foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating. So why not give baby-led weaning a try and watch your little one flourish as they embark on their solid food adventure!

Baby Shop Townsville – The babies and kids shop was born

So, a little while back I had this idea for Townsville’s Newest Babies and Kids Shop! Here is the back story. Nth Qld Babies and kids Market Mackay and Nth Qld Babies and Kids Expo Townsville have been a massive part of my business for the last 7-8 years. These events are an amazing opportunity for local small and medium sized business to showcase in a specialised market setting. With the opening of the Mackay shop, I loved the idea of Townsville having a shop too. I approached the owner Trisha, for Zebra Babies to open the shop here in Townsville.

About Nth Qld Babies and Kids!

The Mackay shop opened in 2021 in North Mackay, being a home for Mackay, Townsville and surround small business to showcase and stock all year round. A range of products from babies and kids to mum and mum to be products. Local small business and small Australian, New Zealand Brands we can’t get locally. Not just a baby shop, for all things big and small. Located – Shop 2224 Canelands Central, Mackay QLD 4740. I absolutely loved this idea and wanted to bring this to Townsville not just for myself but for all our stallholders in Townsville too.

The Babies and Kids Shop Pitch!

I picked up the phone, rang Trisha and said, I have an idea and I think I’m the perfect person for it! The inner workings of the Townsville shop were underway. A lot of phone calls, facetimes and searching for a lease that was the right fit for us. I got a phone call one afternoon from a centre management asking if I was still looking for a shop front and we went from there. We finally landed on Kmart Aitkenvale after they approached us.

Shop Fit Out Day Was Here

We got the Keys! We planned the best we could for our fit out. Handover day come and oh my goodness, I was so excited to pick up the keys. I think I was shaking of exciting at the time. The move of Zebra Babies began and the fit out of the shop front a couple days later. Our fit out was done in 2 weeks. Moving Zebra Babies and most of the stock (there was a lot) out of my home in 3 days as well as setting it up to be able to process online orders in about 2 days. CRAZY! We got all our walls installed and the bits and pieces done. Trisha arrived from Mackay with the final fit out.

The last push!

once all fittings and stock arrived from Mackay. We absolutely smashed it out. We lost count of the amount of trolley loads we purchased from Kmart that weekend. The wine and good food consumed after our long days. We did it!! A beautiful babies and kids shop full of local stockist from Townville, Mackay and small business brands from Australia and New Zealand. We even added a cute little play room in the middle for kids to play while mum and dad shop.

Opening day for the Nth Qld Babies and Kids Expo Shop!

We did our soft opening week on July 25th and grand opening even on the 30th with an amazing turn out. Shae from KTM Kollections Helped the entire day with opening and closing. Are amber beads safe for babies?

Mums and Dads have always been eager to find ways to relieve teething discomfort for their babies. So, when it could be as simple as amber beads around the child’s neck, it’s understandable that mums and dads would become interested.

What’s an amber bead necklace?

An amber bead teething necklace is a string of round amber chips the child wears around their neck. The amber forms from fossilised tree resin which is shaped into rounded, small beads threaded onto a piece of string or cord. Claiming the resin, once warmed by the child’s skin, has anti-inflammatory properties and can help to soothe a child’s swollen, sore gums.

Amber bead anklets and bracelets are also available, although necklaces are the most popular. The beads come in a range of colours, from white to yellow and brown to black.

Who are the necklaces made for?

Amber bead necklaces are made for children and adults, who are teething or showing signs of inflammatory conditions. The recommended age varies, although they generally say benefits in wearing them between 4 months.

What Is Baltic Amber?

Baltic amber is the fossilized tree resin of ancient conifer trees that grew in the Baltic region 40-60 million years ago. Baltic amber is the only type of amber that has a rich concentration of succinic acid (3-8 %). Baltic amber is then mined into beads and made into jewellery. Succinic Acid (also called Amber Acid)  in Baltic amber is believed to have pain-relieving or healing qualities when absorbed into the skin.

Are amber bead necklaces safe?

Product safety is so important when it comes to babies. Amber bead necklaces and bracelets are only to used with strict adult supervision. All safety and care instructions should be read followed. They can be a strangulation risk to children and they can also break and the child could inhale the beads if they mouth or chew the necklace.

Necklaces should sit on babies collarbone and not be too long as they may chew the necklace. Always to wear under clothing against the skin. Amber bracelet should be worn on the ankle or wrist and not roll off.

baby and identified the risk of choking to babies who wear a string of amber beads.

During the teething period, it takes around 4 days for the tooth to emerge through the gum and around 3 days afterwards. There is no consistent pattern of behaviour when it comes to teething. Some children don’t seem at all bothered; others become quite irritable.

10 other soothing methods to help with a teething baby

  1. Lots of cuddles
  2. Extra naps if their night sleep is being disrupted
  3. Extra breast or bottle feeds if they’re keen
  4. Teething toy and toys to chew on
  5. A cool, wet washer
  6. Foods that can help sooth like steamed cold apples.
  7. Offering something firm to suck on, such as a rusk
  8. Massaging your baby’s gums with a clean finger
  9. Drying the skin around your child’s mouth and chin if they’re drooling a lot – rashes are common in areas that stay moist
  10. Pain relief medication if your baby is miserable – make sure you use the right dose for your baby’s age and weight and speak with a doctor or pharmacist first

Amber necklace Safety

  • Always supervise your child when they are wearing amber bead necklaces, bracelets or anklets.
  • Remove any amber beads before you leave your child alone (even if it’s only for a short period) and when they go to sleep.
  • Never let your child chew on the amber beads.

Who can I speak to for more information?

Speak to your doctor or child health nurse if you have any concerns about your child’s teething. They can give you great support and advice.

We do not make any therapeutic claims that amber is a miracle cure for teething babies and all safety and care should be followed.

homemade sensory paint

Homemade paint – We loved making homemade paints at home out of cornflour and food colouring – Super simple!

A great alternative to cornflour and food colouring is blending a variety of fruits ( strawberries, blueberries, kiwi ect) for colour and letting baby paint away, keep a washcloth or hose close this will be sticky.

WE FOUND THIS GREAT RECIPE HERE

ALL YOU NEED –

4 Tablespoons of corn flour (corn starch)

Cold water

1 Cup of boiling water

Liquid food colouring

METHOD

In a medium saucepan, mix the cornflour with enough cold water to make a paste. (Not too runny).

Pour in 1 cup of boiling water and stir thoroughly so there are no lumps.

Turn on medium heat on the stove and mix. The mixture will start to change and you will notice some clear streaks forming in the mixture. Once you see this, turn off the heat and continue stirring. It will start to thicken and turn into a wonderful, custard-like consistency.

Spoon equal amounts into empty jars, cups or containers and add food colouring. Mixing until completely combined. For each colour, we added 3 drops of yellow, green, red and blue. To make orange, we added 1 drop of red and 2 yellow and to make purple, we added 1 drop of blue and 2 red.

Store in the fridge covered with cling wrap for up to 2 weeks. This paint recipe does not have any preservative in it, so it is important to check that the paint has not expired before giving it to children.

Tip: If the mixture has harden from being in the fridge, adding a little bit of boiling hot water or leave the paint our for a few hours will return to its smooth consistency.

How to clean your FRIGG Dummy

Our FRIGG dummies need a proper amount of care in order to protect our little ones from bacteria and viruses and maintain a good pacifier hygiene.

DIRECT SOURCE FROM FRIGG WEBSITE- https://www.frigg.com/how-to-clean-your-frigg-pacifier

Natural Rubber Dummy cleaning – step by step:

1.       Put the pacifier in a clean bowl

2.       Pour with boiling water

3.       Let the pacifier soak for approximately 5 minutes

4.       Pick up the pacifier and let it dry

5.       Squeeze excess water out of the pacifier when it has cooled down sufficiently

Caution! Do not boil the pacifier in a pot. Our pacifiers are not meant to be boiled; they will therefore be ruined by the high heat.

Pacifier cleaning – how often?

The younger your child is, the more important it is to protect it from bacteria and viruses and maintain a good pacifier hygiene. This is partly due to the fact that a young child’s immune system doesn’t mature until they are three months old.  Premature babies, infants, and babies up to 3 months do not tolerate as many bacteria and viruses as babies over three months. Therefore, the pacifier must be cleaned more often when your child is between 0-3 months old.

Premature babies, infants, and babies up to 3 months old:
The pacifier should be cleaned with hot water every time it has been dropped on the floor. In addition, the pacifier should be cleaned with boiling water at least once a day.

Babies older than 3 months:
Rinse the pacifier once a day under hot water and rinse it under cold water if it has been dropped on the floor.

NB! No matter how much you clean and care for your dummies it is important to replace.

The general recommendation is to introduce newborns to pacifiers when breastfeeding is fully in place. However, more and more professionals are moving away from this opinion and now recommend offering children a pacifier from the start – as long is it is the right pacifier. The right one is a pacifier with a round nipple in natural rubber (latex).

The round pacifier is the type of pacifier that most closely resembles a mother’s breast in both shape and material. The explanation for this is that when your child is about to breastfeed, the tongue rolls up around the nipple and creates a vacuum, which causes the milk to flow. When your child sucks on a round pacifier, it rolls its tongue around it the same way.

Avoid nipple confusion with a round pacifier

Nipple confusion typically occurs if newborns become accustomed to using a flat (anatomical or symmetrical) pacifier, before gaining 100% control of its sucking technique during breastfeeding. Flat pacifiers do not require your child to roll the tongue around the pacifier. On the contrary, it is more likely for your child to put pressure on the pacifier with a flat tongue and the lips squeezed. If your child transfers this technique to breastfeeding, the milk will flow poorly, your child will have more difficulty getting enough food, and breastfeeding will be painful for you as a mother.

If you wait to offer your child a pacifier until after breastfeeding is completely in place, you will of course avoid nipple confusion. However, if you want your child to benefit from a pacifier many positive qualities, you can safely introduce your child to a pacifier with a round natural rubber nipple from an early stage.
